For How Long Should You Do the Master Cleanse?

When you’re about to do a cleanse, one of the most important things to decide before you start is how long you’re going to do the cleanse. I always recommend that people decide beforehand because once you actually get into it, the temptations and cravings and hunger all grab you and constantly try to tempt you to stop. If you don’t already have a strong figure in your mind, then your stint on the lemon detox diet might well be abbreviated.

Different lengths of time for a cleanse can work for different people depending on many factors. How strong are you? How many responsibilities are you having to maintain? Are you overweight? Underweight? Have you fasted previously?

For a beginning cleanse, even just 3 or 5 days can be very helpful. However, the real target for your first serious cleanse should be 10 days. 10 days is long enough to give your body a chance to move out of the initial phase of shutting down all nonessential systems and getting used to the idea of not having to digest food all day. You get at least a few days of deep cleansing action, and that’s the whole point. Those last three days of a 10-day fast are incredibly powerful, and so you should commit to making it all the way to day 10 if you possibly can.
